This year's South Coast Charity Challenge was our biggest yet — a sold-out field of walkers, and a community atmosphere stretching along the iconic Jersey coastline from La Rocque to Corbière.
A perfect day on the south coast
Sunday brought a little of everything — clouds, sun and breeze — all in all great walking conditions. Walkers set off from La Rocque from 8:30am, and the energy from the very first step was something special.
The route wound along Jersey's south coast through some of the island's most beautiful scenery — clifftop paths, quiet coves, and open headlands — before finishing at the iconic lighthouse at Corbière. For many participants it was their first time completing the full 15 miles, and the sense of achievement at the finish line was clear to see.
Stories from the route
Every year the South Coast Challenge produces moments that stay with you — and 2026 was no different. This year our oldest finisher was 85 years old, completing all 15 miles to a very well-deserved cheer at the finish line. An inspiration to every single person on the route.
She said yes! 💍
And if that wasn't enough to remember the day by — there was also a proposal out on the course. Somewhere along Jersey's stunning south coast, with the sea air and the sound of fellow walkers around them, one participant got down on one knee.
We're absolutely delighted to report that she said yes! Congratulations to the happy couple — what a moment, and what a backdrop. We like to think the South Coast Challenge had something to do with it. 💍
A sold-out event and a brilliant atmosphere
We're delighted to say that this year's event sold out well in advance — a testament to the generosity and enthusiasm of the Jersey community. From families with young children to groups of colleagues walking for the first time, the mix of participants made for a wonderfully warm atmosphere on the day.
Support teams were stationed at key points along the route, and Liberty Bus provided a courtesy shuttle from Corbière back to St Helier at the end of the day, making the whole experience as smooth as possible for everyone taking part.
Why it matters
Every penny raised goes directly towards supporting people with a learning disability across Jersey — funding the Social Club, support services, and the projects that help our community live fuller, more independent lives. If you walked, donated or cheered from the sidelines: thank you. You made a real difference.
Sincere thanks to our sponsors — Asset Risk and Liberty Bus — whose support helps make the South Coast Charity Challenge possible each year.
