Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled

A BRIEF HISTORY

The Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled was formed in April 1985 with a formal constitution and official charity status, with an overall objective to encourage and support the needs of local disabled sports people.

Staffed entirely by hard working volunteers and funded entirely by donation and fundraising activity, JSAD have matured as an organisation, today offering a wide range of sporting opportunities to a membership which has increased every year since the Association was founded.

JSAD is in many ways unique as it can truly state that it is a ‘pan disability’ organisation which reflects the fact that all disability (physical and learning impaired) and all age ranges are catered for in an overall concept of participation being the main emphasis, although competition is encouraged amongst those Members who wish to do more than just take part. Fun in sport is also at the forefront of the general ethos.

JSAD is now formally recognised as the governing body for disabled sport in Jersey and continues to expand services offered both on Island and increasingly overseas participation and competition is evident in the increasingly busy diary of events.
